Cran Óg (2006)

for guitar quartet.

Duration: 2 mins 15 secs.

This work has never been performed or recorded.

Programme Note

Crannóg’s are artificial Islands which were built in Neolithic Ireland and used as homes.

A Cran is also an uilleann piping ornament and the word Óg means young.

This piece is short like a young person and there are lots of cran ornaments used in it.

It is based upon a jig melody I composed. This melody is the basis for the entire piece.

I composed it in one night in my Aunt Dolores’ house, where I lived for a short time after returning from Ireland from 2 years in London.
