Irish Tune Category: Hop Flings

(Highland Flings with extra ‘hop’ beats)

Beau’s Hop Around the Kiwi Orchard

This is a sequel to ‘Beau’s Bounce’, it is a variation on that tune using a more minor/modal sound, played a bit slower. It’s common for Irish trad musicians to change the mode/key of a tune, so that’s basically what I’ve done here. The rhythm I play it in is closer to a fling than a reel, so I call this a Hop Fling, due to the extra 6/4 beats.

Takapuna Beach Hop

Takapuna Beach Hop (Hop-Fling)

A tune composed in Auckland, New Zealand, close to Takapuna Beach, where there is an annual vintage car show called a ‘hop’.
The tune should be played with a swing common to Donegal Highland flings.
