Programme Note
Part 1 of 'The Man from Maghera Rambles through Africa’, was written as a showpiece for the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to open the concert where Martin Hayes premiered the concerto Aontacht.
It is a small gesture of thanks from me to Martin for the inspirational music he has created with Dennis Cahill and for the great friendship and encouragement they have given to me.
The piece has been expanded to a 3 part orchestral suite which imagines Martin leaving his homeland of Maghera to travel to Africa where he plays with various African musicians.
The full suite has yet to receive its World Premiere.
