Etain’s interest in traditional music began in Wexford where she learned tin whistle and worked with innovative band ‘Dorchadas’, which combined classical and traditional music and instruments performing original compositions through the Irish language.
Etain has won eight all Ireland titles including the President’s Award at Slogadh and a number of national Feis awards, winning the Tara Shield three times, and has appeared on the Late Late Show and RTE’s Puirini. Her interest in traditional and folk music further developed while living in Dublin, where she introduced the oboe to trad music sessions. Etain also works as a session musician and recording work includes Frank Cullen’s traditional music album “And All Points West” and Tony Boylan’s “Life’s the Teacher”. She was commissioned to compose music for the Hidden History TV series – “Duffy’s Cut”. Etain teaches oboe with Coole Music in Gort.
