Described as 'a masterful guitarist' in Sing Out! Magazine, Dave Flynn has gained international recognition as a guitarist/composer who defies categorisation in one genre.
He has developed a unique style which draws on his experience in many different music styles including classical, folk, jazz and popular music.
Flynn’s 2009 CD release, Contemporary Traditional Irish Guitar, showcasing his skills a guitarist and interpreter of traditional Irish music, has received wide critical acclaim.
Flynn has performed at festivals including The Nuertingen International Guitar Festival, The Guitar Festival of Ireland, The Clonakilty International Guitar Festival and The Masters of Tradition Festival. He toured as a solo guitarist in Japan & Germany during 2013.
His sensitive and tasteful guitar accompaniment style was showcased during The Tune Maker's 2012 tour where he performed with five living legends of Irish music; Liz Carroll, Mairtín O'Connor, Tommy Peoples, Charlie Lennon and Peadar Ó Ríada.
He is also a prize-winning classical guitarist and keen chamber musician having performed with such groups as The Crash Ensemble, The Cosmopolitan Guitar Quartet and The Dublin Guitar Quartet. In this capacity he has premièred works by composers including Michael Gordon, Roland Dyens, Kevin Volans and Philip Glass.
Dave's compositions have been performed by leading traditional musicians including Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill, Mick O'Brien, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Brendan Begley, renowned guitarists including Craig Ogden, John Feeley, Clive Carroll and the Dublin Guitar Quartet and some of the world's top classical ensembles including the Prague Chamber Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, New Juilliard Ensemble, Smith Quartet, Vanbrugh Quartet and the Con Tempo Quartet.
His music has been published worldwide by Mel Bay, Reed Music and Frisbee Publications.
Dave's future plans include an album of his complete works for solo guitar.
Dave plays a nylon string guitar custom made by the German Luthier Friederike Linscheid.
